In the first 2 years, CIJV partners contributed over $12 million
to secure over 114,000 hectares
of wetland and associated habitat
in the Canadian Intermountain.
The partnership is continuing
to track its accomplishments.
This support has come from partners
in both Canada and the United States, with assistance through the North American Wetlands Conservation Act. CIJV partners have undertaken significant conservation measures:
habitat acquisitions, stewardship
and protection programs, development and implementation strategies
and communications and outreach
programs. In the Columbia Valley,
for example, conservation organizations
and government agencies have secured sizeable acreages of prime wildlife habitat through acquisitions
and covenants.
